Why Isonde?

Nature finance in Africa is often fragmented, underfunded, and disconnected from the realities on the ground. Communities and local organisations are sidelined by inequitable funding models.

Isonde exists to shift this paradigm – empowering financiers and local actors, aligning with national and global targets, and structuring finance mechanisms and opportunities that prioritise both people and planet. We look beyond ‘jobs’ to genuine equity. We look beyond nature as mere reporting metrics, to embedding rights for nature in governance and revenues.

Isonde brings regional insight, ecological science, governance innovation, and environmental finance expertise together for nature, communities & economics.

Our Approach

Isonde reinforces – not replaces – local leadership. We create innovative, landscape-scale financial architecture to enable finance to flow to nature, communities and back to investors.

Key elements of our approach include:

  • moving away from isolated impact initiatives toward coordinated action within a defined landscape, with clear and enforceable implementation pathways;

  • embedding nature as a rights‑holding interest within governance and corporate structures, enabling biodiversity outcomes to be treated as binding obligations rather than voluntary commitments;

  • supporting meaningful economic participation and benefit‑sharing for communities, with progress assessed against widely recognised social and development outcomes;

  • enabling diversified economic activity and investment within a governance framework that explicitly protects ecological integrity and long‑term resilience.

  • applying ecology, financial, risk, and landscape modelling skills to guide investment and support investment modelling

  • matchmaking between funders, delivery partners, and government priorities

  • responsive oversight and performance support
